How to buy Expired domain name

    There is a site whose domain name has been expired for almost an year ago.I want to buy the domain name without contacting the owner of the domain name.Is it legal???
    Please help.

    If it is expired a year ago, it should be already deleted form the registry and be available for purchase.
    As long as domain does not contain trademark, it would be legal for you to register it.

    And if the domain name is expired only one or two days ago and i have to purchase it.
    Then how can i purchase it???
