How to buy a domain from someone who you can't get in contact with?

I want to buy a domain from someone registered with domainsbyproxy but I can't get in contact with them, how would I go about this.

I've tried using their contact form on the site, emailing theirdomain@domainsbyproxy and contacting domainsbyproxy directly to find out if the owner has selected to have any emails forwarded on or not (which they wouldn't tell me).

The site hasn't been updated in forever and I'm willing to pay 4 figures for it.

We've tried domain brokers and lawyers, but none of them could get in touch.

I'm considering some underhand tactics, but before I do does anybody have an idea how to get in contact with them?

    1. did you use any searchengines to figure out if the domains shows up somewhere?
    2. did you use archive.org to find out if the domain has a "past", if so you might be able to find a contact
    3. domainsbyproxy might still be able to help you out, depends on the questions you ask and the answers you give

If domainsbyproxy is not responding, I would first use Google to find out if the domain has been mentioned at all by its owner.
Before you pay 4 figures for this domain, though, think about it again; from my experience, serious domainers with good quality domains tend to keep their WHOIS info public.

domaintools has an whois history (paid membership is required)
If you use the mail at the whois they should receive the mail if they have put a valid email ( the mail is like )

If their contact e-mail is theirdomain @ domainsbyproxy.com, then it means that the domain is registered privately (whois cover) on domainsbyproxy.com. Just check out that site. This site offers private domain name registrations, so I doubt they will give you the contact to the real owner of the domain. Perhaps they at least forward e-mails coming to that e-mail address to the owner's one.

What you might try to do is to simply search for the domain on Google. Search the domain with and without "www" and you might find the domain being discussed in a domains/webmaster forum by its owner.
