for sure it is very neccessary to get more traffic to your website or blog you should have decent amount of link back,may be you have decent amount of link back but analysis those link are they comming from reputation website.I always try to get link from reputated blog or website under my niche.How i do this.

1.)go to google and search for my top keyword than comment on website or blog those are in the top slot ,i never comment on blog out of 10th page of google.
2.)this process gain reputaion to your blog and put you in top slots.

"Summary".gain reputated link back to your blog website instead of use less link backing.

You should check again that you comments are going approve regular or not?

Because as i know high PR blogs or other sites who support commenting will not approve your comments simply. You have write very effective comment and most of them will not support url directly so you can put url in only your profile.

For link building you should try article submission, directory submission, social bookmarking, forums posting etc.

We submitted articles with fresh content in article directories and bookmarking sites and created blogs in wordpress MU sites and within 3 months my client site is no1 in google for selected keywords so for SEO or Link Building is only effective if you use fresh content plus submit in good websites.

 

Is it worth paying for back links, or should I try to spend the time myself? I've seen offers to buy back links, but I'm never sure what offer is reputable.

 

You can pay for the service and be fine, but not the links themselves.

Trust me, don't buy them.

 

Better to spend time yourself. Create good contents and get natural backlinks. You'll save money and that's better way than buying links.

That is not enough I guess... I suggest that you focus on creating reputable post to Web2.0 sites and Bookmarking is also very effective and there are lots of things that we need to consider.
