Hey every one, A lot has been said about the consequences of building links too fast. The most common thing I hear, is that Google will look down upon or even black list sites that grow too rapidly? At what "rate" do you think link building should be done at? I'm sorry if the answer to this is very obvious. I am new to SEO and am working on a site that I intend to hold onto for a while, so I don't want to upset Google or seem suspicious. (By the way, it is a video/movie streaming site) Thanks, Theo
it depends on a lot of factors. 1. Domain Age. 2. A constant rate of growth for a period of time. (if your blog for its lifetime has only had 1 post per week, and then all of a sudden it posts 200, google will notice this!) 3. PR of the site
You could technically start blasting a site from day 1. Just depends on the amount of buzz you can generate about the site.
It will depend on what kind of link building strategy you are planning to use. If the site is new and you are going to be using traditional link building like forums, directories, link exchanges, purchases etc than I would take things easy at the beginning to avoid raising any flags. Spread this out within a 2 - 4 month period, the amount of links will obviously depend on your competition. Percentage wise : week 1 - 3 ( 30% ) 4 - 7 ( 70% ) If you obtain a large amount of links manually in a short period it will raise flags, Google will look at your domain age and also the backlink progression of your domain. If there is a sudden spike for no apparent reason you might find a low level backlink discount penalty. Google does this simply to stop people from buying links by discounting the link juice for 1 or 2 months, generally the link buyer will pull out of the deal when they see no effect. However if you intend on building links via very organic methods like link baiting and virals than you shouldn't be concerned about been penalised.
