Absolutely - and in these circumstances, you should try a little damage control and contact them to ask if they would mind removing it, or at least, get some good anchor text on there. You also need to ensure the number of relevant links outweighs the number of irrelevant ones.
I would call this method as skeptical and sometimes little slow in results. Any ways you are right for the most part. But SEO as a service in your context will not work. People demand results in no time! and we gotta bring them results to stay alive in the market.
What are your comments for those who have built links too quickly and are suffering from the consequences?
Nonsense! What sort of companies are you working with? I have more and more coming to me all the time! With more than 9,000 Google 1st page results under my belt (most of these top 3 places) and with doing this for 10 years, I know what works and what doesn't! Do it quick, and you jeopardise your customers sites because Google will penalise if it sees too many links added too quickly - fact! Do it slowly, and over time, you build a good stack of authority links. An example for you - one of my sites is just a toolbar PR3 - has just 6 links and is 1st place for a contended phrase of over 3,400,000 results. This is not hard to do if you know what you are doing. The only people that are struggling with SEO in the market are those that offer inferior services - if you know what you are doing, the work comes flooding in! I get referrals all the time and have been retained by so many companies on a monthly basis, that if I did nothing other than the retained work, I would still be making thousands a month - and I am not cheap, but they do say you get what you pay for! So please, do not say this doesn't work, because it does!
Is this something that has happened? If so, drop me a PM and I will chat to you about it. There are ways to combat this (white hat) that will see you back on the right path again, but I need to know the site and how the links were built. Be only too happy to help you though
Sorry, didn't mean to miss your post! I could go into link juice and how page rank is passed around, but the simple answer is that because of the nature and structure of threads in forums, they are never seen as an authority. Don't get me wrong, every link is worthwhile, as long as it is in context, but there is so little page rank on a thread page such as this, that it offers no value whatsoever. Google will see it, crawl it and you will see that in your stats, but that is as far as the benefits go.
I'm just in the begining of linkbuilding for my first niche blog, and it seems that the first tip is really the best: you want to do it fast, but Google don't, Thanks for the good post!
Does Anyone know what article directories are the best one. Is there a place you can see them by the volume of traffic ?
^ Only submit your articles to authority sites like Ezinearticle, Goarticles, Ideamarketers, and Amazines. Those are on top of my list.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.. This really helps especially for newbie seo who wants to learn more of building site popularity. Also, I agree with what you said in number 1. Just take your time and do it in a right way, so that you'll build quality backlinks...
hi sir My favorite overall moment was when a totally legit company stood up and asked for advice. Overall, their site was great: good architecture and very crawlable. They had lots of really good backlinks, including industry-specific links. But I could also tell that they’d been buying some backlinks. And they were buying backlinks from the exact same place as one of the earlier sites! thanks
Slowly or Viral Link Building Campaign? What should i follow? Hmm.. How do google know that your link pattern is spammy or not?
Actually was more of a question that I thought some people might want answered. From my experience and what I have read, you have to start doing it properly and "earn trust" again. Thanks for offering to help though. Like everyone I see myself dropping in listings and get a little over excited trying to bring myself back up. You are right, it is a tortoise race. Actually what frustrates me is that the top3 in my industry have appalling links into their sites but a lot of them. I am talking the sort of pages linking out to 75 websites from one page. I dont want to do this, but as a result I sit in 6th place. Coupled with the fact that I have a designer brand name that is in no way associated with the products I sell. When I do get positive online press they link to me with my designer name and not my product keyword ... whats a guy to do!
Hi all, I'm really new to this SEO thing, Can someone please share the secret of getting backlinks i.e. do you email relevant sites and ask if they will link to you, use forums, pay someone? Its all a bit of a minefield to be honest
How heavily contended are the search terms that you refer to? Drop me a PM or leave your details here and I will have a look at that and your site Generally, those sites that have lots of non-relevant links are the ones whose search terms are not heavily contended. Not always the case, but I see it a lot. There are so many factors why someone could appear top with just irrelevant links that I could just guess at a few. Like I said, one of my sites has only a few links but ranks first for a well contended phrase because of the content mostly! Happy to have a chat
There is no real secret but what I always suggest is do it yourself if you can - search for a phrase you want to be found for and then check out where they are getting links from by typing this into Google link:www.websitename.com This will show you all of the sites they are linked from. You should also look to see how you can get links here. Compose a polite e-mail enquiring about the opportunities that are available on their site for links. However, make sure you have a reason they will want to link back to you – you will need a great site or great content – ideally, a mix of both.
There are lot ways to get Backlinks. By doing article marketing, directory, social bookmarking and press releases you can get one way quality backlinks to your site.
