Just so you know, there are also 3rd party services that can help you to create a professional looking amazon associate website. The astore is great for people just getting started, but once you realize the limitations and want more flexibility, you'll probably want to look at something like E4E or aom.

The Astores can be very limiting, but then so are almost all of the hosted Amazon scripts that are also out there. They are closely grouped IP wise and soon get knocked back by the search engines, so i would also personally stay well away from.

The better ones are the ones that you can host on your own server, such as...

    Associate-O-Matic from http://www.associate-o-matic.com
    AffiliateBang from http://www.affiliatebang.com/
    Associate Engine from http://www.c3scripts.com/
    WAHA from http://www.wahacms.com/
and ReviewAZON that is a wordpress plug-in from http://reviewazon.com/
    etc

With the most of above you can host several stores on your server for the same price, and of course when it's hosted on your own server you are able to have them looking the way you want, but more important have it on it's own IP range well away from other stores. Plus of course you can also host your other sites and scripts etc without been tied to having to rent an amazon store or move all of the rest of your site when you want to try a different type of amazon script.

Then of course you can go down the route of using a blog and linking to relevant items in your posts.

There are a quite a few good scripts out there. Best thing is to have a good look around and find one that fits YOUR needs. May even be that you might decide to use more than one script for different types of site, but as long as they can all be hosted on your own server that should not be a problem.

Not sure about other hosted scripts, but I know that EcommerceForEveryone.com , allows domains to have a unique IP address. We have them available especially for site owners that want to use an ssl certificate. E4E allows you to ftp to your account and allow you to fully customize the look and functionality on your own which is why we have so many different and beautiful sites. Just wanted to add that in as another option to the above mentioned sites.

Simply sharing an ip address doesn't affect the ranking of a site, unless it's a known spam ip otherwise, a site is ranked by the kind of quality it is, the inbound links giving pr and many other factors. There are thousands of great ranking websites that are on shared ips so the myth that you won't rank on a shared ip is limited to very few exceptions.

When it comes to hosting on your own server, it's a good idea if you have many web properties, but if you are just hosting a site or two, there's nothing wrong with shared hosting, millions of websites do it. As an IT professional, you'll know when you grow out of your server.

Vagrant, you made several good points, and thanks for those links too, I've been exploring alot of different ways to interact with Amazon's web services. In particular I've been looking at reviewazon.com , they have a very clean method of adding the amazon products into a blog, I've been doing it for years on my own blog, but I think their system would be great for launching many different blogs on sub-domains.

That is correct, i an use shared hosting myself, but if a small RANGE of IP addy's all have stores, with the same program "footprint", than that is not wise at all, as I am sure many will agree with.

I meant own as in already have hosting (even if shared) as in not tied into renting a script as well.

In any case, I find it better to have my UK sites on a UK IP range and CA ones on a CA range etc.

If I put up more than a couple of stores, then I only put a couple on one webhost, and use a different one so that the IP numbers are not even closely related IP range wise. It's also better for linking that way as well if i decided to link.

Anyway, the OP was asking about building an amazon store, and there are other sub forums here to debate if having your own IP etc, or your service, is better or not.

I was just giving my opinion that buying a script, or using some of the free ones, gives more possibilities for those their own web hosting, which going by past posts of the OP they already have hosting for their other sites. I was just giving a small list they may want to look into that would run on what they already have.
