How to build a Page Rank checking app?

Can anyone help me?

My colleague is building us a custom SEO app and we're looking to check PR as part of it.

I thought there was a way to query Google directly for Page Rank through the URL field in a browser? But maybe I am wrong?

How else can we build it into the app?
