I notice that if you have a directory, that it can be very effective if done right, but what wondering is if it will cost a lot of money to build a directory of your own?

My Target is to build a PR 4/5 Business Directory

How are you measuring effectiveness? By the number of visitors? By the number of submissions? By the Alexa? By pagerank?
A niche directory is the best imho so your biz directory idea is a good one. I recommend going with phpld for the backend and it does cost some but is quite worth it. As for getting PR to your site just start a quality linkbuilding campaign

    Best of luck

I agree about phpld. I have seven licenses and am about to buy 4 more. I build all my directories from the ground up. Linkroo.com is a PR4 with a 26355 Alexa rating. My newest is a legal directory.

You can make money with directories but I haven't discovered how to get rich!

I think page rank is the best, because more people prefer high pr sites, yea I have had a look at phpld, might use it, might not, how much is it?
