Hey everyone, I've been doing as much SEO for my site as I know how, been building backlinks, have blog commented, have done optimization for individual pages on my site, added content, etc etc etc.. I Currently Rank 13 (according to google webmaster tools) for the search term "wood urn" and am a couple positions up or down depending on the day for the term "wood urns" I've progressed nicely over the past two months going from completely unranked on googled to the 2nd page of search results, but as we all know.. Unless you're on page 1... You might as well be on page 100.. Have any of you been in this position? What can I do to nudge myself into the first page of results? I'm willing to put in the time and effort once i find a direction to go.. My site is linked in my signature.. I'm not sure about the policy of posting links on this forum so I wont.. Any input would be appreciated.
From what I see (this is my personal opinion) with flash site you cannot go to much with SEO. You almost have no text, all is just program. I hear that Google caffeine will be able now to read/parse some text from flash, but since it is not rolled out yet (only one DC), you cannot benefit from it. Still, even with new Google ability to parse some text from fl;ash, you will be always limited, compared to text sites. Another point is your title and meta description. In title you repeat few words multiple times. Try to use each word only once and target more keywords instead. Your meta description is too short. You can afford 160 character there. Put longer description there with keywords you like people will find you. And try to obtain more backlinks with hypertext containing your keywords.
I'm aware that Flash is a poor option with SEO... But, as far as standing out to the customer, we have seen a massive difference between the flash store and a conventional cart system.. I'm not really sure where to go on the meta description.. And as far as the title goes, how would you recommend changing that to make a positive difference? I've gone through a couple different iterations on the titles of pages.. But not really sure what would work the best..
Don't waste your time with meta descriptions. Build some quality links to your website and try your best to make them look natural. ie. don't use the same anchor text too often.
Well, I agree that you should create more links to your website, but content of the website plays bigger role that links pointing to it. Try to get the most of what you can from your website first. You title is: Wood Urns - BRYAN CUSTOM WOOD LASER ENGRAVED URNS I see the word 'wood' and 'urns' appears twice. Try to use other words that people may search with (of course related to your content). You can write up to 70 characters length. With respect to meta description, it plays a big role in search results. The words appearing there are taken into consideration by Google. Just try to search Google with: wood urns keepsake cups The result from that query shows in bold what it found. As you will see some parts in your title and description will appear in bold. Your current description is too short and mostly repeats the title: Bryan Wood Urns Store You can write description of 160 or 170 characters. Try to put as much as possible information there, without repeating same words, and of course make it readable and user friendly. English is not my first language, so I cannot really help you with that, but try to see similar websites what/how they did. Describe your product in different ways, like wood urns, souvenirs, presents and etc. If I search with: wood urns souvenirs you will be found on a second page of Google. If you will add souvenirs word into your title or description, most likely you will be moving to Google's first page.
Hi, BryanWoodUrns I have just visited your site in your signature and find below: 1. You might have not optimize your homepage for there was too little text contents on it; 2. Your meta description tag is not optimized, either 3. You have too little backlinks for your sites. Wish this help,
I wouldn't bother with the meta description at this point... If I were you, I'd focus on trying to add more content to the page. Add text where you can, toss in a few more images, use alt image tags, and update content frequently. Take into account that, as mentioned above, Google Caffeine will be able to read some text from Flash. Also, backlinks will no longer be quite as important as they are now...
Hey Bryan consider also publishing article news, not only it boost ranking but also make you visible by a big audience who's looking for your keywords (put them in the title and in the content, with all possible synonims). There are a few ways you can do that (ezine, pr web, etc...). I'm not an expert but I read a lot and can tell you it worked for me ! Good luck !
Just keep doing what your doing and you will get there. You can't expect to be on page 1 after only a couple of months.. I'm not sure how big a search term your trying to rank for though, but in my opinion it wouldn't be difficult to rank high for wood urns. Just keep getting back links but make sure to mix it up a bit. ie: wooden urns, wooden erns, urns of wood, urns made of wood e.t.c
Try Article Marketing an old school and most powerful strategy still...Fire few 300 to 350 words and submit to Ezine once your article approved then submit it to other Article directories and gain some high PR authority sites. This will quickly gain your ranking in search engine....
Back link building strategy; 1. Comment on do follow blogs in a similar niche to your own 2. Use DP, Site point forums and warrior forums for back links, these are excellent and very well respected by google. 3. Write and post articles into article directories like ezinearticles. You have a niche that you can demonstrate good knowledge in. Alternative pay £5 or £10 in the trade forums here at DP and have someone write them for you. All the best with your site, it seems to me that volume may not be as important and the quality of the traffic you get.
You just need to keep on doing what you're doing - Keep building those high-quality links and keeping your content fresh and you should be fine.
Comparing the two sites is not the point. Point is that you need more text along with your flash, just put it down below. Your description is not so bad, you could add a few words. Think what you would put on a brochure. With the right adjustments, you could rank above the fold for "wood urns" Results 1 - 10 of about 2,590 for intitle:"wood urns". Bompa
