How to Blur part of an image like in this example

Hi,

How do I blur part of an image like in this example so that it looks better when I want to put text on one half of it?

BTW I'm using CS2 if that helps.

quickmask > gradient fill (black to white, the area u want faded/blured) > exit quickmask > fill color/blur filter

 

If you're using a PC,
Press Q,
then G,
(make sure gradient is black to white),
hold down shift and drag from right to left,
let go,
Press Q,
press delete key few times..
and bobs your uncle.

 

I still can't figure it out.

What you need to do has been said before,
Make a new layer
Make a gradient and edit it so that the right side is opaque and the left is white.

To do this you drag the little tabs that show the colour of each side of the gradient.

Not the best explanation I know, but I tried.

Then you Duplicat Blur layer image, then change the blending options in the Big Shoft..
