How to block users from countries but although Google to crawl and index a site

I am working on an online gaming platform where the games / content are restricted and only available to people in certain countries. USA is not allowed, while canada is allowed.

If i browse to the site (to the home page or any page) as a USA visitor i presently arrive at the site and get redirected to a resticted location page with the following message:

    RESTRICTED LOCATION
Due to licensing restrictions, we can't currently offer our services in your location. We're working hard to expand our reach, so stay tuned for updates!

I want google to crawl and index the site so its pages are available in the SERP. Because users from certain countires are blocked to the site i don't want to get penalised for cloacking.

    Would the following be acceptable:

Unlike what the company is presently doing the user would NOT get redirected to the restricted page, but stay on the page they are visiting except the screen would be blacked out with a restricted message.

Google could crawl the site as per normal, but the restricted message would only appear for human visitors from restricted countries if visiting that page.

I was told to use paywall scheme but in webmaster world i was told this would not be good for publicly viewable pages for people who are not location restricted.

    I appreciate you thoughts.

It is not recommended to use a paywall scheme for publicly viewable pages for users who are not location-restricted. Instead, consider displaying a blacked-out screen with a restricted message for restricted visitors, while allowing Google to crawl and index the site normally. This approach will help prevent penalties for cloaking and ensure the site's pages are available in search engine results for users in allowed locations. Stay transparent with your restrictions and update users on any changes in availability.

Fixing WordPress Indexing Issues on Google: A Quick Guide

Struggling to get your WordPress site indexed by Google? Here’s a simple guide to help you resolve indexing issues and ensure your content appears in search results. This guide is tailored specifically for [Swimay](https://swimay.com/), but the steps can be applied to any WordPress site.

    1. Check Your Settings

First, make sure your site is not blocking search engines. Go to your WordPress dashboard, navigate to **Settings > Reading**, and ensure that the "Discourage search engines from indexing this site" option is unchecked.

    2. Verify Your Site with Google Search Console

If you haven’t already, verify your site with Google Search Console. This tool allows you to monitor your site's indexing status. Add your site to Google Search Console by following the steps provided, and submit your sitemap for better indexing.

    3. Create and Submit a Sitemap

A sitemap helps search engines understand your site structure. Install a plugin like **Yoast SEO** or **Google XML Sitemaps** to generate a sitemap. Once created, submit the sitemap URL in Google Search Console under Index > Sitemaps

    4. Check for Crawl Errors

In Google Search Console, navigate to **Index > Coverage** to see if there are any crawl errors. Fix any issues that Google reports, such as 404 errors or blocked resources, to improve your site's indexing.

    5. Optimize Your Content

Ensure your content is optimized for search engines. Use relevant keywords, create high-quality content, and ensure your site’s structure is user-friendly. Properly use header tags, meta descriptions, and alt text for images.

    6. Improve Site Speed

A slow website can negatively affect your indexing. Use tools like **Google PageSpeed Insights** or **GTmetrix** to analyze your site's speed and implement recommended optimizations.

    7. Utilize Internal Linking

Internal links help Google understand the relationship between your pages. Ensure that your content is well interlinked, which can help search engines crawl and index your site more efficiently.

    8. Check Robots.txt File

Your robots.txt file controls how search engines crawl your site. Ensure that it doesn’t block important pages. You can check and edit this file by going to yoursite.com/robots.txt.

    9. Update Regularly

Regular updates signal to Google that your site is active. Post new content frequently and update existing posts to keep your site fresh.

By following these steps, you can improve [Swimay](https://swimay.com/)’s chances of getting indexed by Google. Consistent monitoring and optimization are key to maintaining a strong presence in search results.
