How to best match functionality of honestflorist.com?

Three things that I think make this site stand out:

    1. Tons of best sellers listed on the main page, so that you can decide or almost decide what you want, all on the main page.
    2. The said best sellers are still listed by category, as opposed to all being thrown in together into a giant best seller list. This is super convenient, because you want to avoid best sellers from categories like "funeral flowers" (unless of course that's what you need).
    3. The "Find a Gift Fast" box is awesome - a few keystrokes and ONE mouse click and you're on your way, and it doesn't just register you, but also searches for what you want!
    4. The account login / sign up box is very conveniently placed and clearly visible, which is something that very few competing sites have (and same goes for items 1-3 as well).

And of course, a huge plus is that the design is soft, pleasing on the eyes and generally awesome: it emphasizes the flowers, rather than design elements, so you can pick what you want fast and get on with life.

That being said, how do I most closely match the functionality of this site? I was thinking of starting with Magneto Community and then upgrading when I have more money. But with Magneto Community, which items on my 1-4 list will I NOT be able to get, and so it is the best software for me or is there something better?

    Thanks team! :)

You don't need to update magento to pro really. Its cheaper to extend the functionality of it. I am tad swamped but I will look into the find a gift sorta functionality. I didn't look too closely but I am guessing the site could be using an api of some sort.

EG: where are the flowers actually coming from. Last I checked sites like that outsource the delivery to local folks. Hence, things have to be routed quickly.

Thanks Nigel, the site will start with one major city where we already have a florist, and grow from there.

Do you think I should go ahead and get the free edition of Magneto then?

Is there any way to get that Quick Order box in the middle with this software though?

Also, are there any specific limitations of the free edition that will really get in my way?
