How to best advertise my products for $100

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by creditreliefsoft.com, Dec 29, 2005.

I have two finance related products (here and here if you want to take a look) that I would like to start marketing, but I have to say my budget is quite limited, only about $100. What is the best way to go about this do you think? I've tried adwords but that didn't work well, my product is $9.95 and those type of keywords are usually very high. Thank you in advance!

I would concentrate on building links, submit to directories and maybe advertise for free here

I agree, save your money and find ways to market for free. Build links (SEO), submit to directories and search engines, try writing articles on finance, maybe start a blog, be creative. ;)

Just so you know, these are my products; I am not an affiliate. Also I am ranked 2 on msn and 4 on yahoo under the term "credit card calculator" so I feel a pay service would help me more in terms of sales. I'm averaging about 0 per day right now, and even with these rankings I only get about 30 visits per day.

I'm in no way trying to be mean or anything, but I don't think I would personally pay $9.95 for your products. Maybe I would if I had debt. But I don't know.

I do think your products are a great resource but being a tight penny pincher I don't know if I would personally purchase it.

I think you could make more cash by possibly offering your product for free. Have a full version on the site that people can use online, add some more pages with content that are related to your product, and add adsense to your site or maybe see if you can come across someone who will be willing to place their ad on your site for so much a month.

You have a PR of 5 on your credit card calculator page so you must have some good links pointing to that page. And like you say you are doing good in serps on MSN and Yahoo so it seems to me people aren't extremely interested in buying it.

Another thing I would do is change the look over your website. I can barely see it. Everything is very lite colored.

The links in the search engines do not go to the home page, they go to the individual product pages. Also, I don't see working on my seo for years so I can maybe get a few hundred hits a day a very good prospect. I would much rather have a good email campaign or other paid ad campaign.

bloggermel: How much dough are you raking in with your adsense ads? $0.50?

How old is your site? creditreliefsoft.com

I just went to Yahoo and through in your keywords "credit card calculator". You are #4 out of 17,000,000 that's awesome. Google, Yahoo, and MSN are the 3 biggest players. You are in 2 of the 3.

I really think if you change the look of your site you will get more people who will stay on your site longer.

I don't think it would be wise to to do paid campaigns at this point. I see a lot of people who count their chickens before their eggs are hatched. You should be selling your product by now if you are listed where you are and people are interested in your product. If you aren't selling, there is a reason. Maybe your visitors prematurely leave before they even really look at your product. Maybe they aren't too interested in it. Maybe your competitors have free calculators. Figure out why you aren't sellling and you will make $. I don't think it's because you aren't getting enough traffic.

I have a website that barely made anything, but after changing the look of my site and putting my phone# up. I started making cash.

The problem with your demo is the number of CC's you can enter. A good majority of potential clients will have the bulk (if not all) of their debt tied up in 1-4 credit cards.

Your best bet is to create a demo page showing you using it (IE html/graphics and/or flash).

As to marketing, work on getting your website up to speed first. After that, look into setting up an affiliate problem then get your hands dirty by contacting owners of finance related websites. You might find some who are eager to try out a new revenue source.

I would also write a series of articles for marketing and release them. Bundle them up, put them in a zip and use this as part of your intro speech to finance website owners.

I am not aware of any permission marketing campaign you can perform, that will be effective, for $100.

Blonde Jon: Thank you for the advice on my website design. The links were from mainly lifehacker.com and downloadsquad.com which I don't see as the in-debt crowd, I still got 10 sales from it though. I think I should get my product in front of the right people and probably remove the demo. One of the stories on even called it a "free online functional demo" which I think motivated people just to use the online version. But of course all of this relies on an effective ad campaign for around $100 which is of course, the purpose of this thread.

martketjunction: Thank you for the advice about my demo and articles. I contacted a website with that idea in mind but I didn't write a big article.

hmmm, sorry I offended you. If my site had very good listings on SEs (and considering the fact that it's a blog that's a few days old...) I wouldn't be posting how to promote my site with a hundred bucks, lol.;)

Some people will never get it.

    Well, I dunno...

    I see:
    creditreliefsoft dotcom
    Then, the credinator and budginator
    a 3 page site...

I think you got a good idea... You are helping people with those two tools, and I further feel if you keep on that same track by providing at least 50-70 more helpful things, then your domain will start to gain traffic.

It is, after all, about credit relief, right?

Articles: How-to's <- Real, helpful information where visitors can, for themselves, do the work.
More calculators, perhaps, but work it all in.
Maybe, if you can swing it, a long-term planner calculator...
Where folks can enter (for example):
Credit card debt (per card or total, optionals)
    Earnings / month
Then, bills: Groceries, mortgage/rent, electric, etc... (you got to think about it, sorry about that lol)
yeah I mean include car insurance and clothes and cable and internet and ALL that crap.
don't forget child support payments (no for real, you got to do some work unfortunately)
And so on, let the visitor enter ALL their financial info on one page - Anonymously would be awesome.
Then, based on the entries (tip: let them enter % apr's and all sorts of sch.77)
the page calculates some payments and over time, gives the visitor a detailed schematic / plan to get themselves out of debt.

Man you just don't know what you can do with that, the possibilities are virtually endless...

Links wouldn't hurt, a small directory of credit-aid <- Highly targeted, be picky about what you put there.

Needless to say, the more of this that remains free of charge or obligation to your visitor, the more traffic your site will gain.

    Good luck :)
