Get selected for being an all-round good egg and having a proven track record.
    There's no application process.

Be a recognised contributor to DP forum. And also, you have got to be expert in this field too.

Well you need to get loved on DP by the admins and soon (maybe) you might get it

But again asking how is not a good idea though :p

You do not apply for the post. There isn't any advertisement placed anywhere. The way you post and reply to posts gives people an indication of your personality. If Shawn and the rest find you suitable, they'll offer you the job.

You need to be a "popular" member here.

If you're girl then it is a plus point :D

    Nothing else

That would certainly get their attention.
I have another theory on this too: it definitely helps to be either female or bald.

    2 main things usually.

be nice to people and try to help people genuinely without any incentive.

Why are there so many threads about this? Don't you think DP should make a FAQ stating that mods are chosen by random and there is no qualifications? Maybe also outline the good and bad things about being a mod. I am sure its time consuming thats why I would never want to be one really.

Its because people like to have the power to open/close threads and ban members at a community as big as this, if people really wanted to help they won't ask to be mod because they would be doing it either way.

In a way anyone who asks to be mod is pretty much disqualified on the spot.
