How to be on top of Google (and other search engines)?

I am building a website these days (web application) and I will be bringing it online in in 2-3 weeks. Now, I would like to know how can I go from zero to top? I was reading my link exchange stuff and I am kinda confused.

This is what I want to do - Go from PR 0 to PR 6+ and be on top of Google for a specific keyword or keywords. I know it is possible and I need some help.

I would like to know how this link exchange actually works? Should I only exchange links with high PR sites? I want to do that but what if those high PR sites don't want my PR 0 link?

Also, what kind of information or html tags should a webpage have so it can be on top of google?

please explain how all this works? how can i be on top of google and get heavy traffic

Your website template should be search engine optimized. Keyword rich content is important in getting top search engine ranking.

 

don't bother with link exchange as it is old school link building method that doesn't work anymore. besides, there are so many ways to build free one way backlinks that searching for link exchange parterns wound not be anything other than mere waste of time.

also, dont focus on getting your PR increased as PR (i'm assuming you are referring to toolbar page rank) is not a relevant measure for traffic and SERP ranking.

what you need to focus on now that you are in the process of building your site is your on-page factors. unique content is the key after which you focus on your meta tags and site structure/template/navigation etc. Once your site is developed, you then focus on quality link building. try to get as much theme based links as you can

 

yeah, you will have some work to do for that or as that guy said, or you will need some good money to do that

It is not that easy, as you think.
You will have to do everything, whatever you can.
Try to
write articles,
directory submission,
classified ads etc.

Build quality backlinks from PR 7 sites, Your site will surely get to top

 

Focus in creating good quality content, as the experts say.. "content is king".. and the link will build it self as for the PR0 jumping right away to PR6.. maybe this is not so impossible, if you can make high PR sites to link to yours

 

Next to unique content:
- A URL with your most important keyword in it;
- A title meta tag with the right keywords;
- A description meta tag

Meta tags for keywords are less relevant, but it's probably a good idea to put those in as well.

I think the most important is to focus on keywords with high commercial value and less competition first and build on the keywords with more competition later on.

Go to the top with what? Which keywords are you optimizing for, and what is your industry/market/niche/topic?

 

You should have good backlinks and like Dan Schulz said which scope your are optimizing on very important.

 

As mentioned above try everything and anything. Your competition is likely to be reading the same threads and implementing the same if not more things to try and get one over on you when being indexed. I find building a site from scratch is the best place to start. While building do keyword research, concerntrate on relevant content, make sure your linking system is easily used by humans and bots, ensure you have a functioning robot.txt file. My best bit of advise would be to read!

Keep adding content, comment on blogs, write your own blogs with links to main site, article submission, press releases, high PR directory submissions

 

The guy above who said don't bother with link exchanges is spot on. They're a waste of time, and a good way to leak whatever juice you've built up. Getting high on google is simple. Choose a key phrase you want to rank for. Include it in your meta title. Include it in your meta description. Include it a couple of times in your text. Get as many links as possible with your key phrase as the anchor text. The link building will take some time and effort, but it's not as difficult as people would have you believe.

 

(Psst... the TITLE tag is not a meta tag.)

 

That's why i said meta title. Not title tag. But while we're on the subject. Include your key phrase in your title tag as well .
