Ok, everyone know when doing SEO you need a bit of luck and sometime you will need much to win your competitor. How to be lucky in SEO? Let’s discuss: First luck: Not SEO but up – It’s mean you don’t do SEO, but your keywords rank is still on the top of search results. Have you seen that? I don’t think Adobe optimized for click here keyword. Simple they want to say: click here and download our software to your computer. Second luck: competitor down – your competitor keywords rank could down for some reasons. Example: Hosting died, website hacked, domain robbed,… This is a big chance you can pass over your competitor. Although if your competitor doesn’t meet these accidents, your rank will be difficult passed them. However, you should be proud of yourself for your endeavour. Third luck: Search engine is being mad – I don’t know you trust or not, but sometime we can’t understand why search results aren't always matching. Maybe, your competitors don’t need do much SEO, but their rank increase very fast and if lucky they will be top 1 in two or three days. They will be happy, but you will say “Search engine is being madâ€. If you haven’t been in luck yet, don’t worry. And if having been in luck, just caution. SEO is a game, let’s willing to receive your current rank and striving to get higher ranking.
SEO is not actually a game but more like experimenting ^^ Anyway, there are techniques i`m using which helped me to rank my clients for very big keywords but when i used this techniques on my domains, i had nowhere this results so yea it really depends from niche to niche... Don`t put your SEO efforts on "Luck" ... try new techniques if the old one isn`t working...

I agree with you on the point that doing Seo Enough is good way but also you have to do it in a right way. A right strategy can lift your site up or can bring you site down.
Your first 2 points were dead right and really loved the way you have analysed it. However I didn't really understand the third point. What did you mean by it? Search engine results are based on some 200 ways of calculations. Mad? I didn't get it.
It's just my feels. When someone is not saticfied about something, they ofent think something is mad. Really sometime GG make me cry.
Actually SEO is a Process. i find some manual SEO works like Blogging or Blog Linking, Smart Linking etc work better than any other SEO strategy.
I think SEO needs no luck. It's a matter of self effort and patience. You cannot make your keyword or it's PR go higher in a matter of 2-3 days. It needs perseverance in doing the pinging everyday to make your PR go up. In Article Marketing, you cannot make an article just basing on luck. It needs a lot of wisdom and patience. Same as doing press releases. Also in doing backlinks. It needs a lot of time in copying links, doing bb codes, and many others. All of this SEO stuff requires knowledge, not luck.
Adobe's mistake of giving such words for the download link. Even if you have a download with some other link title, and many people are going to link/visit your page and download, You are going to rank high for that linked title. And this is called SEO Competitors mistake. Choose the proper host - Again a part of SEO Search engine mistake ? Might be. But it also depends on how well your page is optimized. If you do over optimization, you will be thrown out. Believe me, Google likes things that are simple and easy for users. If you wanna call someone mistake as your luck... then it is Luck
I think all you guys who are saying that SEO is not a luck are right. Thread opener vietlk also knows that. You guys are missing out the main point of this thread. SEO is not a luck but you might get lucky at times. You might get something you didn't worked for. Just like the example above Adobe did not optimize their site for the keyword "Click me" but they are ranked No. 1! for that. This is Just a smart observation from vietlk. I liked what he came up with.
Luck is only a factor when you get things right the first time. Hard work is what's it's called when you generally eventually achieve your goal.
when you say luck, i think you mean the complexity and dynamic of SEO where not every aspect can be so precisely calculated as we wish. But there is no luck if there was not a lot of preparation beforehand even your competitor is down.
I only want to say "really, luck is real in SEO. Trust or not depend on you, but when you optimize very hot keywords next to your attempt, luck will help you more, just keep your way and strive to get higher possitions".
I have to agree SEO is really about researching the right keywords and doing the work to get the keywords to rank. Of course on-page SEO makes the job much easier. I would only use the word "luck" if I came across a secret PR 9 edu or gov "do follow" backlink op. ;-)
