I submitted my site many times and they have not even approved it to appear. Is there something specific they are looking for to be included in their directory?

The first thing to do is stop submitting. Every time you resubmit, you just overwrite the previous submission with the new date. You only have yourself to blame for that. Why did you do that for? Did you read the guidelines that you agreed to when you submitted? How do you think any directory (not just DMOZ) should treat those who can not follow the guidelines?

I think this thread has merit ;) It contains a lot of information of what not to do haha. Anyway on a more serious not how does this directory treat forums overall?

Edit - Nevermind do not reply here. Just realized this was a dead topic till someone dug it up. I will make my own topic for my question.

Why do so many do such a dumb thing and then complain about not being listed?

The guidelines also speak of "single best category" and something about deep links being a rule of thumb...yet there are several sites listed hundreds of times over many categories. So I for one can understand the confusion on the part of many people that submit more then once.

Then of course, there is the matter of no real communication. When submitting an application the documentation offers a status check and a time frame for resubmitting... why? Because sometimes the ODP servers loose stuff... then again, maybe it's only the application process that glitches out and looses submissions

Combine that with the ungodly wait time for most submissions, then it's really no wonder people submit more then once.
