How to batch optimize images for web?

    I'm finding myself in this scenario: I have a directory with several sub-directories, each containing dozens of unoptimized images

    Is there a good piece of software that can take that directory and optimize every image recursively? I know how to do that with single images but never needed to do it in mass..

    Optimize in what way, exactly? Size, compression?

    Photoshop can do batch optimize
    VSO Image Resizer too does.
