How to bann russia and Germany from PHpbb3

    I am using phpbb3 and I am constantly being bugged by users from RUssia germany and china how do I block users from these countries so they are unable to register
    my forum is centered around indian users only :mad:

    Hi,

    I have attached a htaccess file to this post. You need to upload the .htaccess file to the root of your forum. If you are already using a .htaccess file on your forum, then merge the contents.

    This should block most users from the countries you have specified. Please be aware blocking a specific country fully will be very difficult. Getting a very updated list of Ip range for any specific country is not easy. Time and again new Ip ranges are added by ISP providers.

    Also if you can provide us, what problem are you facing from the users of these countries. Is it the bot registration and spam, it is the real humans spamming or something else.

    hi..my suggestion..
    there may some loyal users from those countries also..
    so first ban their ip address ..if they still repeat block a range of ip's ..banning a whole country is not a Good Idea...

    Check the IP owners for the german IPs, i had a free host and i was also spammed by people from Russia and Ukraine, for me the german Ips were usually servers rented in Germany not real users. See what datacencer they are using and send them a complaint with proof.

    What you can do is, make new members first post or so under moderation. This will certainly help you to get rid of the problem you are facing.'

    Go to Admin > Genenal > Board configuration > Posting

    Secondly you can also use word censoring feature available in phpBB admin.

    Sometimes spammers sign up just to stick a link in their profile. You can use one of the Stopforumspam integrations to fix that - the one that -only- affects registrations is the best, in my opinion, as it has the smallest overhead.

    i am not much familiar with phpbb :D but i mostly 99% sure they are bots not real humans i rectified this issue by installing human verification system "recaptcha" i hope phpbb allows such option :)

    maybe you can bann ip in your firewall, so the countries' IP you banned will not allow to enter:eek:

    I normally check the ip from ip2location.com , if you have a lot of IPs, maybe u can try to sign up the demo account, free 200 queries per day
