    Hi

I know that linking to sites that are considered by G to be bad neighbourhoods can harm my rankings, but is there a list of sites I should avoid, or how can I spot a bad neighbourhood so I do not link to it in error.

How much damage would linking to a bad neighbourhood cause a site?

Do not link to sites that use link farms or automated link trading. The other sites are sites you would not want your kids to see or use. Any site that is intende for mature viewers i would not link to.

Don't use automatic submission softwares and monitor your links if somebody or you are linking to unrelated sites...:D

It is easy to determine if a site is a bad neighbor. You need to check whether the site is banned or penalized. Or if you can, check the source code of the website where you want to place links.

If you feel that the site is bad to link to it probably is.

Providing links and advertisement is a hard task but it is worth it if you give it a hard work approach!! you should hand select every link for your site and use keen judgment and reasearch before doing it!

In my opinion, NEVER buy links from someone that is going to insert your links in like 10,000 directories or something!! FATAL when you go in to networked databases and such!!

    Just my opinion!!

Yep that pretty much cover everything that google does, if you do the same thing with yahoo you will end up with a heck load of juiced up links :D (just a tip ;))

Also it doesn't really matter if you are linking to a site in a blog post but if its a site wide link it can and will hurt your serps by a tad for your main keyword anyway.

If you link to around 1,000 sites on your blog where you talk about them and some of them turn out to be bad eggs, you won't exactly lose your serp rankings but it will be more like a probation period where you won't get as good rankings on your keywords usually this happens for 2 weeks or the nearest backlink update.
