Hi, I am opening a new travel portal and can not afford the time required to be in the sandbox. So is there any way I can avoid being in the sand box?
When the site is new it is in Sandbox. Later, You can gradually improve back links with good domain and do not do seo work with the same keyword contineously.

Spamming is one the reason, build backlink in short time, spam keyword, and you need to check your backlink quality.
put the site up with a construction page while under development so you at least have presence on the web and crawlers will find you and index your domain before the official launch. As well, place your forum signature now.
6 months to 8 months!!!!! Its such a very long time. I think now the new comers need to struggle more to get indexed.
just build a good content for your keyword. Don't be taken alot of backlink in short time, maybe 15-20 blacklinks per day is ok. you'll never face to face with sandbox
You need good quality backlinks and try to update its articles on regular basis. Use quality theme and use google keyword and purchase quality domain not drop domain. It will give you benefit of improving page rank.
