How to attract users to my site?

    Hello,

I recently released my site http://www.instantpros.com and I am having a very difficult time attracting new members.

I have done many of the SEO tactics but even so I dont think search engines will bring in users to my site because the niche is extremely broad. I have done all the free press release sites and submitted my site to a bunch of directories.

I still only get about 30 new visitors a day and none of them register. I started a new contest where i randomly select a new user and I give them 100 bucks but that hasnt enticed anybody and their odds are really good because there are no new users ;)

What would you guys suggest I do? My budget is very very low.

    With best,

    Phil

I think it's the fact that your trying to do it alone. I get over half a million hits a month, yet spend only a few hundred on advertising.

I also do not worry about SEO or backlinks.

The reason I get so much traffic is because my members are also affiliates, who have an incentive to promote my program.

So you need to ask yourself, are you giving your members a good enough reason to spread the word about your program?

Help share the burden of promoting and stop trying to do all of it by yourself.

Thats a great point and that is how i intend most of my traffic to come from is word of mouth and people sharing the site. The only problem is getting the first initial people to start promoting it for me :)

Does anybody out there have any ideas that would boost the % of visitors to register?

    Thanks!

Firstly you need more visitors before you start worrying about the conversion - 30 a day isn´t going to cut it.. Market, promote, and market some more...

Thanks Alestheides, I totally agree but the thing is that I am not really aware of very effective marketing tecniques for my site. Ive found it really hard to target a select group because there really is no niche for my site.

What marketing technique should i target next?

    Thanks!

    Here's some tips:

    1) What's your goal? Where you want your website to be after 1 year? What about 3 years?

Make sure you have a clear answer to the first question before proceeding further.

    2) Search for these forums for "getting visitors" - and you'll find plenty of tips.

    3) Some more ideas for starters:

    - Instead of giving $100 bucks randomly just for signing up, arrange a contest where those who REFER most people will be taken in to the lottery. Or - make it so that each referred person gives one point, and in each month you randomly pick somebody where each point gives more chances to win the prize. (For example: if guy A referred 50 people, and girl B 10 people and 40 other persons referred 1 new member (and 1000 other referred zero people) then guy A would have 50% chance win, girl B would have 10% and 40 people who rwould have 1% chance each).

    - I would also make a BIG contest banner and place it on top of the site telling something like "contest: win money by telling your friends about the service" (not this exact text, but I'm sure you get the idea)

How about scrapping it, researching markets and creating a product that you know will sell to a group of individuals that you know will buy it from you.

I did exactly that 8 months ago, now I make an income. Seriously consider it.

In the end that is THE most important concept in the whole of marketing.

Even a name as huge as Bob Serling recalls in his book the time he produced a product HE liked, spent a lot of money advertising it, and DID NOT MAKE ONE SINGLE SALE.

Market research must be done BEFORE you create the product.

Have you tried Social Bookmarking sites?

Also, I checked your site and it looks a bit empty. Like the Search Engine Optimization Professional section has only 1 entry. You can ask the SEO and Marketing experts here at DP to submit tips to your site and you can start a 'Tips' section, you can offer a link in exchange with every tip to the submitter. Tips are another way to provide help to the visitors of your site. The tips will also help add content to your site.
