Hi, I'm more of an SEO guy, but I am wondering - what techniques are most effective for attracting lots of Twitter followers? (So far it worked better with Facebook for me, I kept attracting them with guest articles and networking...)
Just find your audience, follow them, interact with them, and share stuff that they want to see! Since I build websites, I follow people who follow GoDaddy and BlueHost - as they likely have web hosting and/or a domain so they might need a professional web designer to make them something unique. This has worked very well for me and I have landed many contracts through Twitter, so provide content and interact with your audience.
You can find account of your competitor and start follow his followers. You can use TweetAdder for it or Twidium Inviter.
Dig on your competitor's twitter account and see those who are following them. Follow target prospect that are most likely to follow you back. How? See if they tweet ofte, see if they are following more people/pages rather than having more followers (they are the ones who tend to follow back). Good luck! And oh, tweet and retweet and never forget to use hashtags especially the trending ones.
I do this following trick of following the followers of similar sites. It works to some degree. Many people are doing this with me and then they unfollow after a while. I think, Twitter is full of people who follow or let themselves be followed just for the sake of marketing. To me, Twitter looks like a spam nest.
This is why Twitter is ideal for B2B marketing/services. Since I offer web design services to businesses and entrepreneurs, Twitter is especially easy for me and I get more clients from Twitter than any other social platform.
You can ask your twitter follower to follow you back. In that case, you can increase your twitter followers through follow back.
People keep following each other on Twitter only to increase the number of followers. But then it's just playing around with figures, no-one follows for any serious reasons.
Following on Twitter is easy if you know how to engage and if you follow back right away. It would be hard to attract thousands of followers in a week. You need to build your account and make it interesting and helpful.
You can use tools. Hmm.. My picks would be. Tweepi, Klout, and ManageFlitter. They are neat to work with.
Tweepi- If you need to flush, reciprocate, cleanup or follow more users. Get active followers from your competitor coz' there's a chance that they will follow you back. Klout- share or get the latest news/trends depending on your category/niche which you can select. Klout intelligently recommends content to share and create an engagement. Manageflitter - same with tweepi. You can see active viewers and it is a management tool as well.
#Hashtag #Hashtag #Hashtag! Of course there are other techniques for more advanced quality followers. I think I saw an article on the MOZ.com site just the other day.
Hi Mr. Dog, I am also in the process of starting my "twitter" career . But having read mostly all of the responses on this thread, I am beginning to again have that terrible feeling in my stomach that tells me, "twitter is a complete waste of valuable time for Internet marketers, unless one knows fully well what one is doing or is suppose to be doing with that system." But I know that that's an unfair conclusion, since I've never used the thing. Oh, well. But still, I am going to try it; if only to be able to say that I've used Twitter. Okay, I agree. That's not a good enough reason to allow myself be completely annoyed with having wasted a valuable part of my day; if such will be the cause, mark you. Anyway, I wish you all the best with that endeavor, Mr. Dog. Cheers. Alodie
twitter has become virus in terms of easy marketing method in compare to all other seo tricks twitter is easiest one and getting lots of real time traffic in short time.
Hashtags. Here's a pretty good infographic on how they can be utilized in a good way for marketing. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/12/small-business-hashtag_n_3991246.html Follow others with similar interests & be sure to acknowledge when they interact with you, as much as is possible. Twitter chats are useful in some marketing niches, too.
