How to appear in Top Stories of Google Search results

    Hello guys,
    So what I wanted to know is has anyone successfully pushed results into Google Top Stories.
    Those square boxes with images that appear on top of organic results. We specialize in product / services / ecommerce marketing. This is the first time we are dealing with News / Media site of large scale.
    What is required for putting our news in that sections?
    The the best of my knowledge Microformats with type news/article and publisher / date information is one of the signals. AMP may be another but top stories also works on desktop too so I am not convinced whether AMP contibutes towards it.
    Please share your thoughts on this.
