If you have a link to the sitemap on your index page...the crawlers should see it automatically...that is how I got mine in anyway...I only submitted to Google since they use xml, but I had the html one up with a link to it and Y! and MSN found it no problem...

The best way at the mo is to have alink to your sitemap from a previously indexed page - sounds obvious I know but despite promises, MNS/Live have still not yet implemented a specific url for site map submission

Great tip which I had not thought of.
Will definitely try out the 'link to sitemap on previously indexed page' idea.

at what I know, live does not accept sitemaps as do GG and Yahoo, they simply treat the sitemap.php file as if they were regular files. in fact, I have installed sitemaps for all my sites, but live never really examines them. Livebot rather classically crawls the entire sites

Google and Yahoo let you submit a sitemap that is in html form. However, msn for some reason only accepts xml. Hope that helps.

Go to http://webmaster.live.com/. add your site then verify it then add your sitemap. I think MSN is a bit similar to Google. Yahoo is the strange one.
