Just an option. It's your bookmark toolbar. Click on View up on the Top, then toolbars and make sure "Bookmarks Toolbar" is checked. By default it should pop up under your address bar. From there you just drag a site icon or the generic page icon onto the toolbar, or you can click bookmarks and save it under the bookmarks toolbar folder. You can also add folders on the toolbar by default that function like drop downs on mouse overs.

Nice thing about it is that unlike IE, you can save sites that have a favicon without a name. I do a lot of heavy browsing and have an obsession with one/two clicking to get to my dailies. Another thing you could do based off you OS is use your quick launch menu. I have my client side stuff and a few sites on my quick launch which is anchored across the top of my screen.
