This might be really obvious and basic but Im only new to Illustrator. Actually Im new to all graphic design but slowly picking it up :)

I just need to know how to add fonts to illustrator? And can I add cliparts or do I just copy and paste them when I need them?

    Thanks for your help

yes you first have to install the font on your system..
then in illustrator type want you want to using the text tool.. and then press (crtl + T) which will open the font dialog and change the font to what ever you like... ;)

as for clip arts.. see the illustrator symbols using the windows menu..;)

Well,in case you don't know how to install fonts, here are the steps:

    1. Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel

Note: In Windows XP, choose Start > Control Panel

    2. Double-click the Fonts folder.

    3. Choose File > Install New Font.

    4. Locate the fonts you want to install.

    * In the Drives list, select the drive and the folder containing the fonts you want to install.

    * In the Folders list, select a folder that contains the fonts you want to install. (Make sure you have unzipped them first.) The fonts in the folder appear under List of Fonts.

    5. Select the fonts to install. To select more than one font, hold down the CTRL key and click each font.

    6. To copy the fonts to the Fonts folder, make sure the Copy fonts to the Fonts folder check box is selected.

    7. Click OK to install the fonts.

I know it`s a bit late, but I had the same issue after downloading the Langer font from fonts.com, and worked out a solution

It was showing in MS apps, but no Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop. Don`t know why, but I found a solution.

You simply need to copy the font files into the Program Files\Common Filles\Adobe\Font folder, and hey presto, the font shows. No need to even restart Illustrator.

I can`t explain why they were appearing in Windows, but not Adobe, but, life`s too short to find out why.

U can use the Adobe Type Manager for add or remove fonts easily, or turn it on and off without removing.

Hello! I see that this is old post but maybe somebody else will see it in the future. Thought it is good to know that I've just done it like in Richie_Ni explanations above and worked just fine to me. For Windows XP SP3, just followed that procedure and they appear also in Illustrator CS6 now. Only installed fonts as Richie_Ni mentioned, I have not done anything else. So thanks Richie_Ni , your post was clear enough to solve fast this small font issue.

Don't ever install install to many fonts on your PC. Use nexus font software and keep all your fonts in a separate folder. Open nexus fonts, assign the folder path and all fonts will be available on all the programs. It reduces the memory usage.

This thread is a bit old, but I'll just note that many apps (including Illustrator) have a limit to the number of fonts they will load. If you reach the limit, you'll need to uninstall old fonts. If you need them all, you'll need to use a font manager.
