how to add code snippets to posts

i see in many posts that code snippets are confined by small window images and syntax coloring is added to the code. How to do that?

 

first thing
click on go advanced, in stead of post quick reply

next you will find the advanced formatting buttons.

now you can play with them and generate the code within [ code ] tags to generate a code like this

essentially all text contained within [ code ] and [ /code ]  tags of course without blanks display like this
