you will have to add your site details at google.com/local/add & define categories of your business after which it will start to appear for those category searches depending upon the popularity of your site.

 

Google will automatically rank the Map Lististing so that the ones closest to the nearest city will show on top. It can also benefit you to have an image, well optimized keywords and a few ratings and reviews.

Oh god, I've had a nightmare with Maps, (me and many others). There's a current bug, where if you update something (in my case my phone number), all you citations and reviews disappear. Consequently I dropped from number 3 to about number 30! It's been months of re-submitting site, waiting, and still the citations have not appeared. (They are exactly the same as they were before the update I made). I wish Google would sort it out!! There's hundreds of others in the same boat.
