You need to get backlinks, this means sites that link to yours. In order to get that, you need quality content, and perhaps submit it to a few places to get links, like free/paid directories.
Nothing against it, but when you want something to become big in the long term, it is better not to opt for a free hosting service.
Your blog will get crawled by the search engines automatically - this usually happens much quicker than the submission process so I wouldn't worry too much. Try and get a few directories instead.
it does't need huge investment; all you need is a domain name which is available at maximum of 9 $ and find some cheap hosting plan (you can find one by searching through these forums) EDIT: look for hosting package that has option of sql databases and supports php as well and then you can install wordpress which is very easy to install and maintain! its better choice than blogger anyway!
I don't think you need to move to a new domain to get a quality blog running. Jjust start quality - regular and consistent postings within blogger. And yes select a good template too. In order to get it listed in Google, you can either submit your blog to them vis this link http://www.google.com/addurl/ A better way is to get a back link from another site - then the google bot automatically lists you detecting that link - and this gives u more advantage than the submitting method. Its your choice. To get a backlink, add your blog to the signature right here. Simple
