Use the button that says "New ad". There will be a drop down menu from which you can choose to add a banner ad.

You can create banner ads using the "Ad builder" from the same menu as well.

I used to use a lot of banner ads. Normally, they are cheaper to advertise, but I personally didn't find them efficient. May be for some niches they are.

I have seen something new appearing in the normal PPC area. They are picture ads. Try typing Laminate Flooring in google a few times and you will see Lowe's ads with pictures. Anybody know how to access that?

Btw. how long does it take to get your banners approved? I've uploaded some banners 2 days ago and they are still pending review.

Adwords calls it an image ad, not banner. So as foreverhired said, click "new ad" and click "image" from the drop down.

    > how long does it take to get your banners approved?

It depends how busy they are, and lately, they seem very busy. I think they may have less personnel during the summer months. Give it 4-5 days. If not approved by then, email them. Same for text ads.

It takes more than a week to get the image ads approved... dropping a mail to support helps
