How to Add Analytics Profile from Another Account

This has been baffling me for ages now. I share a website with a partner, and it's tracked in his analytics profile. I want to have the report access within my Analytics account, but I can't seem to get it.
I've been added as an Administrator within his account (several times now), yet I don't get any alerts, emails or the site added as a profile in my Analytics. When I try to add the website manually within my account it doesn't work as it expects me to add my own Analytics tracking code to the page now. I figure I'm missing something really basic here, can anyone help?

You can see a "User manager" link in the footer of old analytics page, click it. Then click "Add user", now put the email id of the user(means ask your partner to put your email id), select the website(s) from the list, and the save it. It should work. Did it several times.

I've tried that but unfortunately it isn't doing anything. All those steps work, but the site never appears in my account after
