Its a big secret. but I will give you a hint. Get a commercial bank account and a payment gateway, connect your gateway to your checking account. code you site employing ssl to collect info and pass it on to your gateway. get a pci scanning company to scan your site every 3 months.

Authorize.net or PaymentTech are two very large payment processing companies.

It will work same as payment processors. They will validate your credit card and then charge your credit card.. that's simple. Same as how ATM machines are working.

you don't need to be a payment processor to take credit card numbers.
i don't know what they use when they charge your card right then, but sites that get your number and charge you later use a virtual terminal.
    even paypal offers virtual terminal.

You have to apply for a merchants account. Then you have to buy and install a ssl on your site. Then you have to find a good gateway service for processing. You will have to buy or write a script to pass information through your ssl to your gateway. Keep in mind that you will have fees not only for each transaction but also monthly fees for the gateway and merchants account and usually batch fees per day. You need to have some experience because you are totally responsible for providing all customer payment issues like refunds and double billing and issues for when something goes wrong with any payments plus all customer support and your customers are not going to enjoy waiting too long for an answer to any issues that come up especially issues involving money. Most bank fraud scrubbing is worthless and your also responsible for all charge backs so I would also suggest buying a good third party service that will check each transaction. We build our own but if you go that route you have to write a program for that as well and again you need experience. Unless your doing several thousand dollars a month in transactions you will be better off using a third party processor because it would be cheaper.
Plus as someone already said, you will have to be pci compliant and that costs varies but we spend over 100 dollars every 3 months for our scans on our networks and the new requirements caused us to move to all dedicated servers in order to even pass the pci requirements. So keep in mind your hosting will cost more as well.

    1) You have to apply for payment gateway

    2) Use there API with your script to get payments accepted

    3) Important this is some thing unsecure doing it through your web site most buyers doesn't like as my opinion.

Not sure whether I am bumping the thread too or not, but I think we are here not to provide an exact solution rather some helpful information.

Anyway, Citi Bank in India may help, have noticed several sites using their CC gateway.
