How the social networking sites are useful for a new website?

I am building a brand new website....I just wanna know how can I promote it? Are social networking sites a good option??? I am in a some kinda doubt.....Help me plzzzzzzzz

Organic search engine traffic and Social Media traffic both are different things and very effect. Yes social networking is very useful, specially Facebook and Twitter. You will get lots of traffic with this 2 sites.

 

There are a lot of social networking sites on the internet. But I think it's better to only focus on the top social networking sites as the advantage of using these sites is that you can interact with and learn from potencial customers, instead of just building a link for your website.
