It has started to copy Google, at least that is a step in the right direction for them.

Have you really seen changes or are you referring to the Hitwise research which has claimed that Bing's results are better than Google? Anyway no company shares how exactly there search engine works.

They were fired up until Search Engine experts slammed them and rubbished their claims.

Yes. The truth pained them so much. Even though the event did happen, Bing used Google searches to rank their own searches, it's rubbish. Makes sense to me. ::rollseyes::

Let's look at it the other way. What if Google used Bing searches to determine ranking and search results in Google. Then what would people say?

Remember, Bing now comes up with non-existent terms created by Google as a test. How did Bing come up with such non-existent words if they weren't copying Google?

One misspelled word got No 1 rank only proves that Microsoft is watching form submissions and clicks with the help of Bing Toolbar. It took thousands of clicks to send a misspelled word to reach top spot, not the fact that Google placed the same website on top spot for same keyword.

If Google had placed the website on that keyword on 3rd page still It would have ended up on first spot. This proves the point what search engine experts are saying that Microsoft is using user data to enhance the performace of Bing something that Google has been doing for more than 2 years. This doesn't prove that Bing is copying Google's results.

Google used around 100 words in their sting operation (according to some websites) out of which less than 10 words affected rankings on Bing.

Couple of websites have tried the same method on some rare keywords but results of Bing didn't turned out to be same which raises the question that why this sting only worked on misspelled words. If Bing has to copy Google results than don't you think it would copy results for some actual keywords.

Another thing, all these search engine experts who have come in support of Microsoft have been very critical of Bing in the past. There is no reason why these experts will support Microsoft if indeed MS is cheating.

The point is, Bing now has links to sites Google found (created) that Bing would not have found without Google's effort. It proves that Bing rides on Google's back and cannot do it on their own, at least in part. If Bing was not using Google for its own results, these words would not show up in Bing. Bing uses Google. And that's the story.

Bing uses user data as a factor to improve search rank. Its not that Bing only uses user behavior only on Google but all the websites you visit. The same method is applied by Google. This is not called copying results as Google has claimed. Using user data to improve search ranking and crawl new websites is something which is going on for last 2 years. There is nothing new in it. Google is firm believer of using user data as it believes that such data will improve search results.

Besides user data is one of the several factors Bing use to rank a page. That is the reason why Google's sting doesn't work when you use some actual keywords. On popular keywords, all factors of Bing algorithm will some into play and user data alone can't determine the rank. On less popular keywords less factors will come into action due to insufficient data. Similarly for a non existing keyword only one factor was enough to determine the rank. Search the internet and you'll have hundreds of posts where people complained that there website is on No-1 position for particular keyword on Google and get thousands of visitors but on same keyword they are down to 3,4 or 5 page of Bing. If Bing was giving so much importance to user data this would not have happened.

Again I will mention that it was thousands of user clicks which determined the rank not because Google placed the website with non existing keyword on first place. Google used around 100 keywords in sting operation and only less than 10 per cent affected Bing's ranking. Not enough to believe Google's claim.

The maximum Google can claim is that Bing also uses data from Google websites as one of the factor to determine search rank. Something everyone knows and besides Google does that as well.

    That is what I'm saying.
Google uses data from Google? If you are saying Google uses data from Bing then you are wrong!

Google track the activity of users on the web to improve its rankings and better ad placements. If you are using bing than Yes Google is tracking your activity on Bing as well. There are no exceptions.

You are saying that Bing is a cheater and it copies results from Google. Where Bing uses users data from Google as one of the factors to determine search rank. There is big difference in that.

Bing indexing I see on the first page of Bing search results there is a PRLog I made for my website. This doesn’t show up in Google (on the first page at least). I was just wondering if anyone knew if Bing indexes things quicker then Google or Yahoo? View Complete Solution...

If you can't beat them, you can always copy them to steal some of their traffic ;)
