Freelances shouldnt have been affected. If anything they should have benefited. If businesses are trying to cut back on spending, they turn to cheaper alternatives such as outsourcing their work to freelances at a cheaper rate.

I am not a freelancer. Our business has suffered due to the economic crisis, we operate within the B2B training & development industry. Studies have shown that when a business is faced with budget cuts, their training and development budget is always one of the first things to go. Even though our products are significantly cheaper than our competitors, businesses budgets are so tight they still can't afford it.

I would expect on-line businesses to grow, if only due to the quickly growing number of users on the internet. This alone would significantly offset other economic factors.
