    Hey,

I have noticed lots of people here on dp are selling their avatar space, so i thought i would buy an avatar. :D

Has anyone here had any success with advertising in other peoples avatar?

    Why ask then? lol

I guess they will not work as there is no link and if you added a url to the image then it will not be clickable.

It will only probably work if you buy loads of aviators link SiteShift and SevenSeek have done. After they have done this there has been some discussion about it which most probably made people go to their sites mainly down to curiosity.

Avatar advertising is very effective for branding and creating a buzz. It's not all about links :)

I don't pay much attention to them. And I hate seeing 12 million people on DP with the same avatar because then I confuse some of those people with each other and it's a big mess. :D

I think it is only any good for branding if you do it like SevenSeek and SiteShaft.

Yes and No. Get your avatar on a member with 5000 posts and that's a lot of your avatar out there in one go.

I miss it when everyone had their own avatar. Some of them were damn funny. CrazyRob better not sell out. He's got some good ones.

that's actually quite intelligent, ads shouldn't be confined to just websites - avatars, gravatars, sigs should all be prime real estate.

That SevenSeek strategy worked on me. I visited it at the second day of membership here at DP. But you need to buy a lot of avatars for it to work.

You are probably spot on with your comments re newbies

But I feel the market needs more time to evaluate the medium to long term strategies for Avatar Marketing

Rotating the Avatar might be the way forward as nobody wants to look at the same thing day in day out :)

I agree that it can work if you buy enough. I went to seven seek, sitesift and web brainiac after about the millionth time i saw them in peoples avatar. lol

I'm gunna try to buy some more and see how they do for me. At the moment i only got mine and 1 other persons, and have already noticed a slight increase in traffic.

As britishguy suggested, i will try to rotate my avatars regurally... mabey people might even get excited about them. :D lol

Don't think avatar space will result in direct sale, it however gives the site exposure to new audience and reinforce the brand to those who are already familiar with it
