Funny video sites do well if, based on my experience:

    1) you have a LOT of updates

    2) You build a community around the media (ie., forum or email community network or member profile / tagbook)

    3) you use content that is relatively fresh

    4) You viralize your content pages

Oh, sorry for that short reply :D My mistake

What I wanted to say is that humour site are still succesful, especially if you do not bann adult content posts.
Regarding the prices, it depends the way you choose to realize the site. If you chose a ready made soft, you spend less money in the beggining, but if you want to change anything after a while, it will be quite difficult.
Therefore, I think it will me more profitable to invest more money now and to have a high quality and competitive site after some time.

Something that haven't mentioned yet, and is very important for that kind of web sites is the traffic.

A friend of mine has a site like that and uses 3 dedicated servers and more than 3 TB of traffic each month.

With that in mind you need a custom script that will help you save some "server" money as the overhead in this case is very important.

Of course this is something for the future - as in the beginning you wont have to worry for it - but I guess it worths to know before you start :)

Yeah, my plan, as of last night, was to start off by either registering a new domain or buying one that has had some related site on it in the past. I would then use a free script to generate some revenue to get some capital to hire a coder to make a very nice piece of software to run on the site. (And I am willing to spend a lot of money, because I don't want to code anything myself ;-) )

Before I have the site professionally coded, I can most likely get away with MySpace and WoM marketing, as its very viral.

I gotta go right now though, I'm supposed to be working on an essay. :-p

I was just wondering where or what sites you can get free or paid videos from so that you can include your sites watermarks?

I have looked at public domain sites, but can't seem to find any with funny videos on that are colored. They are all sites that include videos that are black and white and are as old as anything.

    Please help!

    Thanks!

Another way to play this business model is to just offer free image/video hosting employing tags and communities. Similar to youtube. Less work on your part.
