I've created state-by-state info pages for my site and I'm wondering if it makes sense to do targeted adwords campaigns for each state. For example, if my site is about widgets I already have a campaign for 'find great widgets' but what about creating a campaign for 'find great widgets florida'? Do you think this is better? How do you allocate your budget then? My budget is already low - just $10/day. Clicks for my keywords are already fairly cheap @.10-.15 each and I think would be cheaper for the state specific ones. Do I just increase the entire budget to $20/day and then let it allocate as needed? Or do $10 for the general terms and $10 combined for the state ones? Feedback appreciated.
There is a direct relationship between how specific you get and your ROI - more specific - more conversions and also a lower CPC. Cost/benefit pricinples apply. Is the extra time you put in to make your campaign more specific worth the extra revenue you will gain. Hard to be precise, but try to estimate.
The more targeted you get, the better CTR you will have, in turn, get great quality scores which will leads to low bid prices. Just remember to tightly structure your keywords, ads, and landing page and you should do well.
So I tried doing this today. I started a campaign for 1 state using my keywords and that state name and... not a thing. They didn't get any impressions in search and only 30 in content with 0 click-through. The QS for all words are ok/great. So I'm not sure what to do now.
They probably have no search rate. Are you in the first page for those keywords? I'm sure you are. Geo-targeting can be tricky with certain niches, some people just dont target the geo aspect of a word if it may not pertain to a service that they need locally, etc. Why would someone need a widget for their site for Florida only? Maybe weather related? How is your broad keywords doing?
I'm not on first page yet, my site is only 2 weeks old and I've just started SEO and link building. I don't think I'll get on the first page for my broad niche for a while because there's some competition. When I pick one of my most popular keywords I get 54,000 results. When I add Florida I get 5800. And widgets was just an example. It's more along the lines of a state-by-state list of Bankruptcy Attorneys and I want to drive people directly to the Florida list. That's not my niche but it's a similar concept. Oh well, maybe I'll just hold off a bit. Actually, I just did a check and no matter which state I enter, my ad shows up under the general campaign, usually with just 3-4 other ads. So I guess I should just leave well enough alone and work on getting some deep links to my state sites so they show up in the SERPs. Thanks for your help.
