Depends on your website. What is the url of your website? How many links do you have? Is your website already indexed within Google?

Cool, this thread reminded me to check mine, and my sitemap (http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=49259) has been downloaded too! 8 hours ago.

tkluge, some parts of my site are allready indexed on google. Will this effect th crawling process? I estimate I have around 500 links.

Hows it all going for you Riboflavin?

Signature links are good ways to get site crawled quickly.

    Hi Sham!

No, this will not affect the crawling process. Google might eventually kick all already indexed pages out of the index (this seems to be a common problem of the current G Sitemaps beta program) - but I'm not shure if this will affect you.

    Best regards,
    Tobias

Sitemaps will help you two ways. First your site will get indexed fairly quickly and second if there is a problem with your site they are going to let you know in the ERRORS section of the Sitemaps site. I have found little errors that no other tool could find and a clean sitemap mean better indexing and more traffic.

BUT - if your website does some gray/black-had stuff - you'll point Google to the problems and risk penalties. Also - if the content of your webpages are copied from somewhere (- this can also be on your own website) - Google will raise this as an duplicated content error and you'll get penalized, too.

So if you have a website that is well indexed with Google you should think twice if you should take that risk.

You get the statistics even when you don't submit a sitemaps file for your website - this is really recommended to do.

I would rather work with Google, play by the rules and use their technology to help me make better website and more money. I have not met anyone that tried to out smart Google and did not evenitally pay the price by being banned. The short time advantage is not worth the evential punishment.

How big is the website - just a few pages? Can you afford 2-5 days without much Google traffic?

If you answer the questions with yes, you can try without a big risk. But otherwise - be careful! :)

I have just opened a website (in sig) and submitted a sitemap to google. It has been crawled ~6 times, but still no indexing, or crawl stats at the sitemaps homepage. Anyone have any idea why?

BTW, this is two days after first crawl. I have a bunch of backlinks (including a PR4), but no indexing at all...
