    1. Because the links you see are not necessarily the ones that are actually there.
    2. Because of how PR works. With just one high PR link, you can get a decent PR yourself.

You can get a PR5 from 1 site and your site can get a PR3 or even PR4 and sometimes you can not see the backlinks right away.

Google has mentioned that they show a "sampling" of the backlinks, I'm not sure there's even any real rules for it, it may just be a random sampling.

To really check backlinks these days you have to check Yahoo! as someone else mentioned. While it's not true that if Yahoo shows a backlink it is having an effect in the Google algo's but you can bet that Google has also crawled it.

if you have a PR0 but have incoming links, it's likely because there hasn't been a PR update since you acquired the link.

the other possibility is that the link it's crawlable for some reason, but my money's on the former.

Just one link from a PR 5 page can get PR 4 for that site :)

So if yo uhave 1 link from a PR 7, would that automatically drag you to PR 6?

PR doesnt mean placement...it means "Page Rank" which really seems to becoming a social status.

Get your positioning and be stoked! Look at your Page Rank as a bonus :)

I don't think so.. as PR 6 is way harder to achieve compare to PR 5

I once have a site that has no index page and got a PR 4.

It is a subdomain, I believe it got its PR from its main domain, or at least it affected it by a bit as I am 100 % no one will link to that sub-domain but in the latest Google update. It is back to zero.

PR originally corresponded directly to rankings, now it is designed to throw noobies off the track. hah ha!
