How should one list a site for the best SERP?

Let's say that you own a site for sports, and that you want it to show up when someone does a Google search for "sports stats."

So when you are submitting your sports site to directories, and you have a choice between listing it in one of two places, which should you choose to get the best placement for search engine results place?

    (1) As a premium category for a directory under "News & Media" (which, has a PR of 4, hypothetically) and has the domain www.directory.com/news

    OR

    (2) As a regular link in the sports category that is a News & Media subcategory (since it is a subcategory it has a PR 3, hypothetically) and has the domain www.directory/com/news/sports

OK, so which do you pick to give the sports stats site the best search engine placement for when someone types in "sports stats" in Google?

    Thanks
