I just created a website. It started with a fresh domain therefore 0 PR and no backlinks. Now I developed a jokes website. It's got about 11,000 jokes and about 30 pictures (will add more very soon). Now my biggest problem is that I am not a pro at marketing the website. What would be some cheap ways of getting the name out there? also what are some recommended anchor names for my neche? I was thinking about "Funny free jokes" or "free jokes" but I'm thinking that those anchors are way too overused... another question is, should I use a program to submit my website to all the search engines or should I do it manually? last question , also how would stuble and digg do on this sort of website? the url is www.digjokes.com. thank you
Stumble should do well, digg is a no-no for that type of site. Build links slowly at first, since it's a new doman. A few good backlinks to get stuff indexed then work on more. Wouldn't post all 11k jokes at once... much better to try filtering that over, say, 6-12 months (seriously, that's alot of jokes). Maybe 500 - 1,000 at the most initially and use the rest to update regularly and maybe get some frequent visitors. As for search engine terms, I'd stick with stuff like free funny jokes, funny jokes, funny, jokes, etc. and just mix them around and work in some deep links.
Submit the site to yahoo and google. Then submit the site to directories and freebie sites. Stumble upon would be good place for joke site not sure abotu some of the other sites.
Exposed your site thru your avatar just like others did. And don't forget to change the title tag on every pages to keep your site on the supplemental index
Exchange links with webmasters here who also have Jokes Sites. I'm sure you can get several responses if you start a thread in the Link Exchange forum.
Maybe look for joke forums and post some of your jokes along with desired anchor texts. They will love you. You get backlinks and they will get the giggles they are looking for.
StumbleUpon is a good tool for promoting sites like yours. Exchange links with entertainment and humour related sites will also do you good. Perhaps even posting them on forums? 99% of forums have a General Chat section, you could post some jokes from your site and at the bottom put: Source ~ digjokes.com

This idea might lend well to you niche. Get your best jokes and say on video and upload it to youtube. If the jokes are funny and you present it well, it could get viral and drive a lot of traffic back to you.
You should try providing a joke of the day RSS feed. This can be a great way to build backlinks and more awareness. Great domain name!
........To keep the site on Supplemental index...?? What do you mean? Why would I want to keep my site on supplemental index? Changing the title is of course good for seo...but I don't understand what you mentioned about keeping it in "Supplemental index"
Nice domain name! Just to answer your questions -- This is how I promoted my funny video site (which runs totally on RSS)... 1. Do a proper keyword research...and find out which keyword has good amount of search and less competition. 2. Get some backlinks from your other sites/personal blogs/DP signature link to your joke site with your keyword on the Anchor Text 3. Use Digg, Stumbleupon, Netscape etc wisely. Submit Jokes or stories that readers will find interesting....Use small but descriptive titles... 4. Do proper SEO on your site... I have found a nice funny video niche.and I rank #12 in google.. .Getting about 400-500 uniques a day ...$4-6 from adsense. But honestly I dont do ANYTHING at all on that site anymore....Just some social bookmarking...etc...
