I'm launching a website soon www.usborderwars.com which is another text based RPG, but instead of using the classic "Mob Wars" or "Lord of The Rings" theme, It will be based on the cartel wars that are currently happening here in the US and Mexico. I will upload banners to game ranking websites and I'm considering Facebook ads. Some people told me to do mass emailing and blog posting but I hate spamming. What are some ways to bring good traffic to game sites such at this one? Any tip will be highly appreciated.
Blog posting is still a good idea. Perhaps you can guest post on blogs about gaming and RPGs talking about your site. You can also join forums in that niche and promote the game in your signature. Look towards educating people about your game without being too pushy. Maybe you can offer tips and tactics to ensure success in the game. (Just be sure to talk about other stuff besides your game if you go the forum route.)
Funny thing, there are not a lot of gaming forums that allow you to have signatures. Not sure why. I do allow them in mine and also give a section for Gaming Blogs promotion for my members. Yeah, spamming just pisses people off. I would look into marketing it on Myspace. I believe they have a large following of a text based RPG. The people may be looking for something different. You might try a youtube video. Get your friends together and act out a mobster killing or something. I might be willing to negotiate some advertisement swaps from my forums or arcade for a banner for my store. The forum is a bit slow at the moment but the arcade gets steady traffic. It's not going to be fast to get a following unless you stumble upon something viral, but with constant recruitment you will get there. Good Luck!
You can use either adwords or banner advertising on high traffic game forum The reason is game niche is low pay niche, you can get cheap targeted traffic by using adwords. And high traffic game forum is another good place to bring member to your game site
have you tried porting the game over to facebook? That will allow you to generate great popularity with ease
I think if done right then facebook ads may work, or you could try exchanging banners with other rpg'ers
Well, if you can't find a lot of pure gaming forums that allow signatures, there's always the wider-interest forums with gaming sections. Though, in that case, I'd focus on forums that deal with video and hobby gaming, comics, etc.
