How should I promote my new social website?

Hi guys,

Just finished developing my totally new social site. It is kind of a mix of Digg/Reddit, forums and wikipedia. It is an online argument site.

I will be launching it on the 29th of August.

I want the launch to be perfect. How could I get loads of traffic to my site on the launch day?

The site is an interesting concept, and I can see it doing well. Maybe you could get your topics by keeping up with Google Trends. You could start an "argument" on your site, then post the same phrase on other sites, Twitter, Blogger, Yahoo Answers, etc., with links to your new site. If the question is popular enough, you could just invite people to participate with Twitter and Facebook messages as well.

 

Use other social networks like facebook,twitter and myspace to promote it and post regularly on different forums.Use classified websites to post some ads.Use press release to let the world know about your new social networking site.

 

I think I could agree with this, it could do well if you follow these guidelines. You have indeed made a great concept that's interesting. Good luck.

 

I think the site has is a great idea. and as WebContent said keep up with the trends and whats hot and whats not etc. Using other Social media sites such as the ones listed above would probably work the best.

 

Rank it high on the search engine and above all, do extensive offline marketing for it if you reside in place like U.S. Many people tend to make the mistakes of promoting things that would have been better off online and at the end of the day they get no result. They shut down the business and assume that they can't compete in the online world.

Big social sites like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace got their fame from the offline world. If you really want to verify this, simply google each of their name on Google keyword and see the millions of millions of searches they get each and every month. Did that come from a certain keyword? Certainly, NO. They worked on building their name.

I think, face book would be the best thing to promote your website and get traffic on the launch day. Post in the wall and also inform your friends to update in their wall to get traffic on the same day.

 

You could post the link of your new social media site on some of the more popular social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, they are a great source of traffic as the search engines index them a lot and quickly

 

Post info about your launch on other forums, and any other kind of websites with out spamming.

 

yeah its best to particpate in other sites without seeming to spam and pushing the issue

IMHO the Facebook groups are the best places to promote your social site. Also, you may be interested in press-release distibution via Prweb or similar sites.

 

I agree with Picstag. Promote your site through Facebook. Create a group. Define the target audience. Involve people coming events. Make a surprise and intrigue. In Facebook this method works very well.
