Optimizing for Google Image Search will tell you what you need to do.

Although "Internet Marketing" isn't a real great term to rank in image search for, not a whole lot of searches will be conducted for that term so traffic will be minimal.

Alt tags are very useful in optimizing the images.

The article says the image name is also a good factor, but I've lost SERP due to that. May be Google has considered that it to be spammy.

I highly doubt you would of lost SERP's due to providing descriptive file names. However naming an image domain.com/iphone/iphones/iphone-covers/buy-quality-iphone-covers.jpg is pushing the friendship, especially if you have several images per page.

The article was written using both analysis of top 10 ranking images for high competition image searches, plus personal experimentation of ranking images.

If you have a look at Matt Cutts blog: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/page/2/

His image names are in the form of:

    http://www.mattcutts.com/images/google-reader-subscribers.png
    http://www.mattcutts.com/images/feedburner-pie-chart.png
    http://www.mattcutts.com/images/google-calculator-suggest.png

Not only does it make sense for robots, it also makes sense for users and helps you administrate your site.
