How should I do marketing new Web Directory ??

I am developing a WebDirectory. Would you ppl guide me about its marketing and possible income sources on the web.

Are you launching a general web directory where people can come and submit their sites, or developing a links directory which other webmasters will be able to use on their sites (like PHPLD)?

I would start a blog on the site and get some natural links.
