How SEO works on sub domains?

I am currently doing SEO on a site about STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) and have each of the STD categories referred to by subdomains. I am hoping that by creating a subdomain STD.domain.com that it will help get more search engine visibility.

I have chosen to use a frame redirect to point each subdomain to each of the site categories. I have chosen this over http redirect since frame redirect allows me to enter title, description, and keyword info.

If you visit the site, www.theSTDforum.com, you will notice that I have each STD category linked using the subdomains. I am wondering if this makes any difference than instead just leaving the category links as domain.com/category

The reason why I linked them this way is so that I am hoping google can find these sub-domains and list them in google.

Anybody know how google treats frame redirects in general?

    Thanks.
