How secure is paypal?

Hello, I recently read an article on black hat library that showed how to change the price of any item you buy through paypal to $0.01. My question is, has anyone ever had someone do this to you and how secure do you really think it is to use paypal to take payments?

Well, when you create the Buy Now button, you can opt to create an unsecured button or an encrypted one. With the unsecured button, all the codes are exposed which includes who to pay to and the amount while the encrypted one cannot be edited and is recommended for use.

As long as you do not opt for automated delivery, you should not have anything to worry. If someone underpay you, just refund the money and tell the person that you reject his order because he modified the amount.

you need to encrypt the buy now button or your customised button so that hackers would not be able to achieve this.

buy buttons are not very secure and very hard to modify these days as the new update hide everything in a number.... so now there is nothing in the link like email, amount etc.... everything is stroed in the paypal's system... but paypal have a big problem in there system.. it expose the email of the premier account and exposing the email can result in getting your account hacked... now a days there are paypal password crackers that don't need to send any phishing emails or links..... all these hackers have to do is enter the emails and a password list and click start button and the program will crack the accounts of the users... and once they crack your password, you get hell on paypal... as they can empty your credit card limit in just few minutes and leave you broke and paypal may not be able to recover the money as now a days hackers send the money to there fake accounts and then transfer the money to a another fake account and delete the old one... so this is a big problem that webmasters facing these days.... so to stop this paypal need to stop showing the email on the payment page... but there is a good side in paypal... if you get hacked then paypal do everything to recover your money which is not possible in other payment processing... so i will say paypal is better then others because of there money recovery system....:D

In over 5 years, I've never had a paypal security issue, so I'd say they are pretty safe.

It is not safe. I actually saw a hacker make a VIDEO on youtube.com and showed exactly how he rips people off with that same 0.01 method. A few got ripped off already so the best place to do business would be ...?

    MONEYBOOKERS.COM.

They got their eyes on every single transaction and they will detect any fraud or theft. They will also report any criminal activity. They are the SAFEST online right now.

Paypal as a system is secured as it would not be easy to hack into the system directly but the weakpoint is the people who uses it. On the security front, members which uses weak passwords can be hacked into. On the marketplace end, there are many people, even here who derived pleasures in circumventing any security elements in the marketplace to make paypal not much different from a crowded market place where frauds and thefts abounds. So much so, you really do not know who can be trusted and who cannot be.

This is the #1 problem with Paypal, I would say. Chargebacking on PayPal is a scammer's paradise.

I think you have to look at it on both ends. Chargeback may be bad for sellers because if abused by the buyer, the seller would be at the losing end.

However it is true to say that not all sellers are honest in the first place. Since the Paypal is buyer-centric which make senses because if there is no buyers, sellers would not earn their money and paypal gets nothing. So it make sense to protect the buyers too. If the buyer who has to put money upfront is not protected then they would not be so willing to buy in the first place. Everything cannot be for the benefit of the sellers and no protection for the buyers because that would still make Paypal's a scammer's paradise since anyone can sell and not deliver and the buyers cannot get their money back.

If you work within the terms and conditions of Paypal, you know that Virtual Products and Services are a No-No for the Paypal platform. Also you need to be sure you have 3rd party independent proof of delivery and you need all the standard shipping and sales documents such as Invoices, Receipts and the likes. Many people who sells in paypal does not know the first thing about business documentations and that is where they get into deep trouble. There are rules and regulations as to how business are conducted in the real world and sadly people using paypal does not seems to understand the real world. The internet is not a utopian society, it mirrors the real world in almost all aspects. Perhaps the global reach of the internet means that someone who wants to sell on the internet needs to have some knowledge in international trade, something which in the real world, you may not need to concern yourself about if you are selling something within your own boundary.
