How secure is a phpbb3 site?

Forum using phpbb3 , how secure is it ?
which one is better SMF or phpbb3.

Any other free scripts for hosting a forum ?

I prefer phpbb3 much more than SMF, but I would suggest going with vB if you have any security concerns pal, because neither of the above forum softwares are really good in that aspect.

You can also check out AEF (anelectron forums), thats the other good free forum script.

 

Phpbb is very good coz its has some great SEO features using additionnal modules.

To be honest phpbb3 is probably most hackers first choice to try to hack. I have seen just about every free forum software hacked at some point or other usually by someone not staying on top of there updates. Seems like its the paid ones that have better coding and hacked the least. phpbb3 would be my absolute last choice for a forum

 

PhpBB is not secured, i used it one of my site and it was hacked quite frequently, even though i used spam checking module it is tough to control so changed to MYBB which is nearly secure like paid forum softwares.

But if you compare with SMF PhPBB3 is secure than it

 

phpbb is secure, just ensure you have the correct permissions.

SMF is insecure, lacks some major features.

 

PHPBB3 is secure, you've just got to make sure the addons you install are also secure
